Time is a really funny thing. When you have fun and you wish everything would stay just the same as at a moment, the hands of a clock seem to start running and time slips from your fingers. And on the other hand, when you really wait eagerly for something and you are bored, time starts slowing down and minutes feel like hours. This often happens at school. We could say that time is endless; it’s like a circle that always comes round. But people aren’t immortal and our time runs out sometimes. The world goes on and never stops turning, but we have only a limited amount of time on this planet. The previous second is already over, it’s already history, and it will never come back. I think we should sometimes stop and think about it and how we want to spend the next second we still have. Hey, it went already when you read the previous sentence!
We spend most of our time at school, at a workplace, and on the whole somewhere where we wouldn’t like to be. Of course it’s good to have the privilege to attend school and it gives great possibilities so that we will get a job we like to do. I think studying isn’t a waste of time at all. But as a counterweight we should relax and do something we like to do in our freetime. Studying is rarely a waste of time, it always gives us something more. But if you spend all your freetime doing something that doesn’t be any fun or at least isn’t worth your while, it is a horrible waste of time.
I try to relax in my free time. Of course I have to do my homework and some domestic work so that my parents have some spare time after their workday, too. But otherwise I mainly try to do things that help me relax after school. Sometimes just staying alone at home and not doing anything special can be pretty relaxing. You can just be and think nothing and have time just for yourself. Every one of us needs some silent time alone sometimes, I think - especially when we live in such a noisy, busy world.
When I’m at home, I myself find reading books pretty enjoyable. I read pretty much in my free time; novels, poems, newspapers, short stories... To be honest, I often sit in front of the computer; chat with friends, read novels and news, check my facebook etc. In fact I think I shouldn’t surf the net so often, I pretty much waste my life and the precious time at the computer. Maybe I shouldn’t talk so much about wasting your time when I myself have such a problem with it, I guess.
Though being on computer isn’t all I tend to do in my free time, not at all! I play the piano already for seven years. I have a piano lesson once a week but it takes a lot of my time to play my homework for piano almost every day. And then I also play the piano just because I like it. I like to get some nice notes from Internet; Disney songs, hit songs, love songs - every kind of notes, not just those mainly boring classical notes like Bach or Beethoven. Though they’re not so bad either.
I also like meeting friends. I have many good friends and we meet everyday at school and often in our free time. I like hanging around with friends, regardless what we do. For example it’s usual that we go shopping, to movies or to some café. It means almost every time wasting money, but then again, it’s my own decision if I use my money or not. I think that being with good friends is maybe the best way to spend my time since I’m pretty social and like to be with people. And nothing can be boring with a good company! And because I’ll leave for Germany for the next year, I would like to be with my friends as much as possible before it. Then again, going to Germany as an exchange student is something I couldn’t not to do because I want to experience as much as I can when I still have time to do it.
In fact there are still left many things I like to do in my spare time. I sew clothes (though I’m not so good at it, but I try to learn to make proper clothes someday) and cosplay. Shortly, cosplaying is to don as a fictional character. Usually characters circles around characters from Japanese comics (since cosplaying comes originally from Japan) but it isn’t so unusual to see someone cosplaying, for example, Asterix or Alice in Wonderland. Anyway, most cosplayers sew their costumes themselves and so do I.
I also write my own short stories and writing is very important thing to me. Beside stories and poems, I also write a blog. It isn’t a big or special blog at all, mainly I just keep it as my diary. It gives me a way to write down and tell people what I have done today and how my life goes on since I have many friends and familiars who live far away. Though I don’t write it for others; it wouldn’t do any harm if anyone didn’t read it, since it’s primarily just for myself and my life. And the blog provides me also a place where to put down some good poems and songs I have found.
There are also many, many other things I like to do in my free time, but I think these are the most important ones. It would take forever if I listed everything I sometimes do. And these are also the pleasantest hobbies; the hobbies and things that make me happy. I said at the start that it’s important to have your own personal time alone but alongside you also should do things which bring you bliss. I think these are the ones that make my life worth living and bring me great happiness. Times change and maybe your interests will also change, but as long as something makes you happy, you know it’s worth your time.
